In this article, we cover everything about import from Turkey to both the EU and the US.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Import from Turkey to the EU \u2013 products<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 1999 Turkey has been a candidate to join the European Union. It has some privileges when it comes to trade with the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Turkey is European Union&#8217;s sixth-largest trade partner. The EU is Turkey&#8217;s largest export and import partner. Total trade in goods in 2020 was over 132 mln EUR. Till the 26 of May 2026, there is an <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/trade.ec.europa.eu\/tdi\/case_history.cfm?ref=ong&amp;id=2543&amp;init=2025&amp;sta=1&amp;en=20&amp;page=1&amp;c_order=date&amp;c_order_dir=Down\" target=\"_blank\">anti-subsidy on trout<\/a> (certain rainbow) imported from Turkey to the EU. The additional duty is 9.5%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">VAT and import from Turkey to the EU<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though the customs duty is largely lifted, there is still an obligation to pay VAT on imports from Turkey. The <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/taxation_customs\/system\/files\/2020-10\/vat_rates_en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">VAT rate<\/a> depends on the EU country you import goods into.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Import from Turkey to the EU \u2013 customs clearance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The EU and Turkey have been in a customs union since 1995. Free movement, meaning the elimination of quantitative restrictions and customs duties, is possible when importing only if you have an A.TR. movement certificate. Since there are preferential arrangements on agriculture, coal, and steel, you have to provide certificates EUR-MED, EUR1, or an invoice declaration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart from the import certificate, when importing from Turkey to the EU, you also need:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shiphub.co\/what-is-a-commercial-invoice\/\" rel=\"noopener\">a commercial invoice<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shiphub.co\/packing-list\/\" rel=\"noopener\">packing list<\/a>&nbsp;(P\/L)\u2013 package list containing the specification of the transported goods<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/examinechina.com\/bill-of-lading\">bill of lading<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shiphub.co\/customs-procedure-for-import-to-the-eu\/\" rel=\"noopener\">SAD<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>value declaration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you import a certain type of goods, you will need:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/examinechina.com\/blog\/cites\/\">CITES<\/a> certificate for the import of specimens of fauna and flora<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>certificate of fumigation issued by customs or phytosanitary authorities (wooden pallets)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>documents related to the <a href=\"https:\/\/examinechina.com\/blog\/ce-and-test-reports\/\">New Approach Directives<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>other certificates, documents, and licenses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Import from Turkey to the US \u2013 products<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Turkey is described as a small but growing US trading partner. It is US\u2019 32<sup>nd<\/sup> largest goods trading partner. The disadvantage is that it is estimated that airfreight is about five times more expensive than sea freight.
