They are referred to as &#8220;the new oil of the 21st century&#8221; and &#8220;the brain of modern electronics.&#8221; Hong Kong is the largest exporter of semiconductors, followed by mainland China. This article will discuss importing semiconductors from China to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Importing semiconductors from China<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though mainland China is not the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shiphub.co\/worlds-top-semiconductors-producers\/\" rel=\"noopener\">world\u2019s largest semiconductor manufacturer<\/a>, it is estimated that in 2030 it will take the lead, making 25% of the world&#8217;s semiconductors. SMIC is the largest contract manufacturer of semiconductors and the fifth largest in the world, with a market share of 5.3%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where are semiconductors produced in China?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to sourcing goods, a good supplier is a must. There are many integrated circuit manufacturers in China. The largest group of semiconductor manufacturers in China is located in Shenzhen. Customs rates for the EU are available in the <a href=\"https:\/\/examinechina.com\/blog\/taric\/\">TARIC<\/a> system. In TARIC, every product type has its own <a href=\"https:\/\/examinechina.com\/blog\/cn-code\/\">CN code<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Combined Nomenclature, electronic integrated circuits are in section XVI, Machinery and mechanical appliances (\u2026); electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof. The rate for goods from China is indicated in the ERGA OMNES.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Duty for electronic integrated circuits:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Processors and controllers, whether or not combined with memories, converters, logic circuits, amplifiers, clock and timing circuits, or other circuits, MCO (8542 31 11 00) <em>\u2013 <\/em>0%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Multi-component integrated circuits (MCOs) memories (8542 32 11 00) <em>\u2013 <\/em>0%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Multi-component integrated circuits (MCOs) amplifiers (8542 33 10 00) <em>\u2013<\/em> 0%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Importing semiconductors from China to the EU \u2013 requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Imported products must comply with the requirements of the target market. The importer has to get familiar with the requirements and check product compliance. In addition to national legal acts, the importer should follow the documents issued by the competent authorities of the European Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">RoHS Directive and semiconductors<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Semiconductors imported into the European Union must comply with the <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=celex%3A32011L0065\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RoHS directive<\/a> on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For semiconductors, there are some exemptions from RoHS provisions, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>6(c) \u2013 Copper alloy containing up to 4 % lead by weight<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>7(a) \u2013 Lead in high melting temperature type solders (i.e. lead-based alloys containing 85 % by weight or more lead)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>7(c)-I \u2013 Electrical and electronic components containing lead in a glass or ceramic other than dielectric ceramic in capacitors, e.g. piezoelectronic devices, or in a glass or ceramic matrix compound<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>15 \u2013 Lead in solders to complete a viable electrical connection between semiconductor die and carrier within integrated circuit flip chip packages:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>15(a) where at least one of the following criteria applies:<ul><li>a semiconductor technology node of 90 nm or larger<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>a single die of 300 mm2 or larger in any semiconductor technology node<\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>stacked die packages with die of 300 mm2 or larger, or silicon interposers of 300 mm2 or larger.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CE mark and declaration of conformity<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The RoHS directive states that the manufacturer is obliged to draw up technical documentation and a declaration of conformity.
